As a writer, why do I continue this business of fashion? The mechanical answer is, in part, because I want to continue to challenge myself to grow my creative abilities, and, in part, because I just can’t seem to stop myself. But it is when I think more deeply about this question that the love flows.
From a philosophical perspective, I believe there is a cultural need for BettyFelonFashions, or shops like mine — both a need for the kind of items created and a need for the unique way I strive to present them. I want to create items for women that make them feel beautiful and sexy, just as they are, without contorting or binding the body, without sacrificing comfort, or their sense of humour.
I use vintage lines because I feel these are more truly flattering for the female form — to emphasize and accentuate the curves, naturally. I pair it with a modern sensibility that’s sex positive, body positive, and cheeky, so we can remember sexuality should be fun and not take our desires so seriously.
I work with short models, average models, black models, asian models, white models, biracial models — models who are thin, thick, curvy, straight, natural, and modified — because I want to show the beauty in diversity. There is no one way to be beautiful, and it’s time to embrace ourselves, stunning in all our flaws.
I hope you will join me on this campaign to celebrate the natural, diverse beauty of women, and support BettyFelonFashions, so I can support you!
